Accommodation and pousadas in Porto de Galinhas
How to choose where to sleep on the Ipojuca coast and what to check before booking.
Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original
Choosing where to stay in Porto de Galinhas depends less on the property and more on the beach it is on. The Ipojuca coast is long (Ipojuca is the municipality; Porto de Galinhas is its best-known village): from the village up to Muro Alto in the north, or down to Maracaípe and Serrambi in the south, getting around calls for a car, taxi, ride-hailing app or buggy.
A pousada is a Brazilian guesthouse or small inn, usually family-run, and the most common type of lodging in the area.
Where the accommodation is
| Area | Profile | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Porto de Galinhas village | Pousadas and hotels near the small center, the jangada boats and the restaurants | Crowds and noise at night in high season |
| Muro Alto and Cupe | Resorts and larger beachfront hotels | Distance from the village; reliance on transportation |
| Maracaípe and the Pontal | Smaller pousadas, a surf-beach vibe | Open sea along part of the shore; fewer services at night |
| Serrambi and Toquinho | More secluded houses and pousadas | You need a car; few services nearby |

What to check before booking
- Cadastur registration. Lodging businesses providing tourism services should be registered with the Ministry of Tourism. Searching the registry is public.
- Real distance to the beach and to the village. “Near Porto de Galinhas” can mean several kilometers. Check on a map.
- Time of year. Public holidays, school vacations and the year-end period fill up the coast. Read the cancellation policy carefully.
- Tides and your plans. If your goal is to see the natural pools, staying near the village makes it easier to reach the jangadas (traditional raft boats) at low tide. See the tide table.
- Facilities for children, accessibility and parking. Ask beforehand, in writing, through the property’s official channel.

List my businessFrequently asked questions
Do you recommend any pousada or resort?
We do not make editorial recommendations for accommodation. We only list places with a verifiable public source and explain what to look for so you can choose well.
How can I tell if a place to stay is properly registered?
Lodging businesses should be registered with Cadastur, the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism's registry. Searching it is public: look up the property's name on the Cadastur website.
Is it better to stay in the village or in Muro Alto?
It depends on your travel style. In the village, almost everything is within walking distance. In Muro Alto and Cupe, the shoreline is lined with resorts and larger hotels, and you will rely more on a car or transportation to get to the village.
