In Porto de Galinhas, almost every outing revolves around the sea and the tide. Ipojuca City Hall (Ipojuca is the municipality Porto de Galinhas belongs to) lists the main activities as the natural pools by jangada, the buggy along nearby beaches and Pontal de Maracaípe. Farther afield are Carneiros and Santo Aleixo. Use the table to decide what fits into your trip.

Jangada to the natural pools
This is the signature outing. The jangadas take you out to the reefs, where the natural pools form. The city hall recommends low tide, preferably in the morning. It also asks you not to touch the coral, not to feed the fish and to pick up your trash.
Buggy
According to the city hall, the buggy ride is a way to see Muro Alto, Cupe, Maracaípe and Serrambi on the same day. Agree beforehand on which beaches are included and how long you will stay at each one.
Seahorses at Pontal de Maracaípe
At Pontal de Maracaípe, jangadas travel along the river estuary to show seahorses in their natural environment. A study published in the Revista Brasileira de Ecoturismo recorded a population decline linked to animals being repeatedly caught for photos. Choose operators who show the seahorse without taking it out of the water, and do not ask to hold one.
Santo Aleixo and Carneiros
Santo Aleixo Island and Carneiros Beach lie to the south, outside Ipojuca. They are full-day trips, with a boat or catamaran for part of the way. Details in beaches near Porto de Galinhas.
