Camboa is a beach on the northern coast of Ipojuca (the municipality that Porto de Galinhas belongs to), right next to Muro Alto Beach. Both are reached by the same road, which OpenStreetMap calls “Acesso para Praia de Muro Alto e Camboa”. According to Wikipedia, Muro Alto lies between Porto de Galinhas and the Suape port complex, and Camboa is part of the same stretch of coast.
There is little official information specifically about Camboa. Ipojuca City Hall has no page of its own on it. This page brings together what could be verified and flags what comes from less reliable sources.
What the beach is like
Travel sites such as Praias.com.br describe Camboa as a quiet beach with light sand, lined with coconut palms, with reefs and shallow water at low tide. Treat this description as guidance, not a guarantee. Sea conditions change with the tide, wind and season, and they have not been confirmed by an official source.
Where it is and how to get there
The route is the same as for Muro Alto: the access road that leaves the Cupe area and heads north. Go by car, taxi, ride-hailing app or buggy. To get to Porto de Galinhas from Recife, see how to get to Porto de Galinhas. The exact distance to the village was not confirmed by an official source and is therefore not given here.
Getting onto the sand
Every Brazilian beach is public property for common use, with free and open access guaranteed by Federal Law 7,661/1988. Around Muro Alto and Camboa, the shoreline is taken up by resorts, gated condominiums and houses, and access ended up in court.
In May 2026, Diario de Pernambuco reported that the Pernambuco courts ordered Ipojuca City Hall to guarantee public access to Muro Alto and Camboa beaches (the report also uses the spelling “Gamboa”). According to the article:
- the municipality must clean, clear, signpost and monitor the existing access lanes;
- the Public Prosecutor’s Office based its case on State Law 14,258/2010, which requires access points at least 4 meters wide and no more than 250 meters apart;
- the city was ordered to pay R$ 100,000 (Brazilian reais) in collective moral damages.
In practice: look for the public lanes and access signs. If you are turned away, ask a local authority for help. The situation may change with appeals or settlements.
When to go
On reef beaches, low tide usually makes the water calmer and shallower. At high tide, the sea covers the reefs. Plan your day with the Porto de Galinhas tide table.
