Ponta de Serrambi (Ponta do Serrambi on the map; “ponta” means point or headland) is the headland that divides the Serrambi shoreline, in southern Ipojuca (the municipality that Porto de Galinhas belongs to). On one side is Serrambi Beach; on the other, Enseadinha. According to Wikipedia, Serrambi has a pointed formation, with natural reefs on one side and a beach with strong waves on the other. The area has holiday homes and is quieter than Porto de Galinhas village.
Where it is and how to get there
The point is recorded on OpenStreetMap as a cape, at the eastern tip of Serrambi. Wikipedia places Serrambi about 70 km from Recife, between Pontal de Maracaípe and Toquinho Beach. The exact distance to Porto de Galinhas village was not confirmed by an official source and is therefore not given here.
You can get there by car, taxi, ride-hailing app or buggy, via the Serrambi road.
Getting onto the sand
Every Brazilian beach is public property for common use, with free access guaranteed by Federal Law 7,661/1988. In Serrambi, part of the shoreline is occupied by gated communities with gatehouses, and access through Enseadinha was being disputed in court in September 2026 (details on the Enseadinha page). Bring ID and use the public access points.
Water quality: check before you swim
Ponta de Serrambi is one of the beach spots monitored by CPRH, Pernambuco’s state environmental agency. According to CPRH, monitoring is weekly, at 27 points in 10 coastal municipalities, and follows Conama Resolution 274/2000. The sampling point appears in the bulletins as “Praia de Ponta de Serrambi, no Pontal”.
The rating changes from week to week. In Diario de Pernambuco articles on the CPRH bulletins, this stretch was listed as fit for swimming on April 2, 2026 and as unfit on June 12, 2026. CPRH recommends avoiding swimming for 24 hours after rain. Before going into the sea, check the latest bulletin on the CPRH website.
When to go
The reef-sheltered side is calmer and shallower at low tide. At high tide, the water covers the reefs. Plan with the Porto de Galinhas tide table, which uses the Brazilian Navy forecast for Porto de Suape. Prefer dry days, given the risk of unfit water after rain.
Who it suits
- Families looking for calmer water on the reef side, with constant supervision.
- Travelers who want peace and quiet, away from the village bustle.
- People touring the southern beaches of Ipojuca.
Environmental and safety tips
The sea off the point is part of the Serrambi Reefs Marine Environmental Protection Area, created by the Pernambuco state government in 2018 (Decree 46,052) and managed by CPRH.
- Do not step on or touch the coral.
- Do not feed the fish and do not take shells or animals.
- On the open-sea side, where Wikipedia describes strong waves, avoid swimming far from shore and respect the flags and lifeguards, where present.
