2-day Porto de Galinhas itinerary

A compact weekend: the essentials of Porto de Galinhas in two days, with a plan for every tide time.

Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original

Two days call for focus. There is one priority: being at the natural pools at low tide. The rest of the weekend revolves around that. First of all, open the Brazilian Navy tide table for Porto de Suape and check the times for Saturday and Sunday. The step-by-step guide is in the tide table.

Before you arrive

Porto de Galinhas is about 60 km from Recife International Airport (REC), roughly an hour via the PE-009 highway, according to Ipojuca City Hall (Ipojuca is the municipality Porto de Galinhas belongs to). Arriving on Friday night gives you the whole of Saturday. See transfer options in Recife airport to Porto de Galinhas.

Day 1: pools and the village

Time Plan
Morning Jangada (traditional raft boat) to the natural pools at low tide
Afternoon Main beach, lunch and rest
Evening Stroll around the village: chicken sculptures, handicrafts and bars

Head to the beachfront early and arrange the jangada ahead of low tide. The city hall recommends low tide, preferably in the morning. Bring a snorkel mask, sunscreen and water. Do not step on the coral and do not feed the fish.

In the afternoon, as the tide rises, the village beach is good for swimming close to the sand. Respect the flags and the lifeguards.

Day 2: Maracaípe and the Pontal

Time Plan
Morning Maracaípe Beach: a walk, a careful swim or a surf lesson
Afternoon Lunch and last-minute shopping in the village
Late afternoon Sunset at Pontal de Maracaípe, before hitting the road

Maracaípe is about 3 km south of the village. The city hall highlights the late afternoon at the Pontal, where the river meets the sea. If your flight is in the evening, go straight from the Pontal to the airport, leaving plenty of time for traffic.

If the tide does not cooperate

Low tide changes time every day. If on Saturday it falls in the afternoon, swap the order of day 1:

Low tide Morning Afternoon
In the morning Pools Main beach
Around midday The village and a leisurely breakfast Pools right after lunch
Late afternoon Muro Alto or Maracaípe Pools, heading back before dark

If there is no useful low tide on either day, Muro Alto Beach is an alternative. Its wall of reefs forms a pool of calm water there, according to the city hall.

What to pack for the weekend

For two days, your bag can be small. Do not forget:

  • a snorkel mask, if you have one, so you do not depend on rentals;
  • water shoes for walking on reef areas;
  • sunscreen, a hat and a UV-protective shirt for the jangada;
  • a dry bag for your phone and documents;
  • small change and a card, because accepted payment methods vary between services.

If it rains

If it is just a shower, wait for it to pass. If the weather closes in for good, use the morning for the village and its handicraft shops and the afternoon for a long coffee break. Want one more day?

With three days, you can add the buggy ride along the northern and southern beaches. See the 3-day itinerary or go back to the itinerary guide.

Frequently asked questions

Are two days enough for Porto de Galinhas?

They are enough for the essentials: the natural pools, the village and Pontal de Maracaípe. Full-day trips, such as Carneiros, are left out.

What if the weekend's low tide is only in the afternoon?

Use the morning for an open beach, the village or Muro Alto, and do the pools in the afternoon. What matters is going at the low-tide time shown in the tide table.

Is it worth renting a car for two days?

It is not essential. If you stay near the village, you can do almost everything on foot and use a taxi or ride-hailing app to get to Maracaípe.
